I’m journal coloring today, or more accurately – coloring a really sparklie and motivating “to do” list page for myself. Over the next few days the lined part of this journal page is going to fill up with scrawled notes, cross outs and other messy markings as assorted trivia of daily life gets figured out and hopefully finished up.

Of course, then I’m going to end up with a really pretty corner surrounded by a flurry of chaotic scribbles. But when the page is full, I cut out my little coloring and add it to a small plastic box. Watching that box fill up over time reminds me of all of my old lists in a way that emphasizes progress and moving forward without hanging on to all of the details that I’m really not going to care about next week or next year.

I do enjoy digging through my mini-art box. There’s something about the journal square colorings that makes it especially enjoyable to line them all up on the desk, play with them a little and then gather them back up to go in their box. Even with the list part long gone, the squares hold a sense of accomplishment which is quite nice.
