It’s now the fifth day I’ve worked on this page, usually coloring about an hour each evening.

Here’s a little close up peek at some of the shapes I’ve colored tonight. All of these are done with one pencil color per shape, just edging with heavier pressure and then topping off with light pressure – and maybe a smudge of medium pressure at times to soften the appearance of some of the shadows.

Shading this way is starting to feel quite similar to regular solid color shading. It’s a little slower because I need to think about what I’m doing, but I can imagine getting much more matter of fact about the whole process if I just keep doing it enough. Eventually my coloring hand will adjust and be more confidents is slapping on an edging line, and have a better feel for how much pressure to use in different areas. And who knows, I might even give up on my need to color the entire shape in and allow some pretty white highlights. Not today, though. I really do like to color in every shape completely – even if I might color a whole lot faster if I left some uncolored parts.

Today’s coloring is from Cool (Angie’s Extreme Stress Menders – Volume 2) colored with Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils.
