Today I’m back to coloring from the wide tipped edition of Balance. I usually jump between books much more often than it would seem from looking at my blog posts so far. But when Balance Wide Tipped came out, I wanted to join a number of our Facebook group members in coloring the entire book from start to finish.
I felt like using fresh and pretty pencil tones today – so what better way to start than with a bit of bluish green.
I’m using Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils again today. This is my biggest pencil set with lots of shades to choose from. I like the fact that they apply smoothly yet hold their points quite well, and I really like the way the entire pencil shows the shade. That may seem like a little thing, but it makes digging the right color out of my pencil box a touch easier. There are so many brands and types of pencils available and they each have their own personality – and I will use other brands when I want to take advantage of their particular strengths. But Polychromos always feel so nice and smooth and easygoing to me – like coloring with a giant box of crayons but with smoother color, shaper points and those pretty painted pencil barrels. If you are trying to find your favorite pencil, I do recommend trying a small pack of the Polychromos. You might very well love them too!
Another fresh green tone added. These shades are filling up so many large spaces that they are setting the color scheme for the page. Let’s add something a bit different to pep things up.
Ahh! As soon as I started coloring these shapes with these purples I knew it was the perfect choice. I had the whole “Ooh! I like this!” feeling immediately. That doesn’t happen with every single color or every shape – but sometimes you color something and it’s all “Yeah! This is absolutely sweet!” I’m sure that is as much a reflection of my own coloring mood of the moment as it is about the actual color or shape – but I do love coloring moments like this.
And it keeps getting better.
And then I try one more little tricky thing, and yeah! I like this too.
It was starting to get late, so I finished up here for the night. It’s possible that tomorrow the picture may continue on with a rousing chorus of wows and hoorays, or I might find that my color mood has drifted and the picture feels sort of different. That’s just something that comes along for the ride when you slow color – and that’s OK. Coloring paths often have a few twists and turns in them and each day will come with familiarities and surprises.
