My big plan for the blog for 2017 is to broaden the range of things that I write about. Even though I color every day, sometimes progress is so slow that it’s tough to have enough photos to make a nice slide show. But there’s always something going on around here. It could be garden stuff, or fun with the animals, music exploration or messing around with photo filters.

Photo filters are a personal fave of mine because they can be such a great way to take pictures of the garden while hiding the occasional weed. And of course it’s fun to transform pets and family members into colorful, fun art – even if it’s sometimes rather goofy.

I spent today playing with all kinds of photo filters, and part of the fun was seeing how yesterday’s coloring looks when bent, shaded, textured and transformed in all kinds of ways. Here’s some of the ones that I thought looked pretty cool

Today’s eye candy slideshow:

And of course, I had to play with a photo of old Mabel the Goat too!

Today’s book: Transcend For Crayons And Wide Tipped Markers (Angie’s Gentle Mood Menders – Volume 4)

Colored with: Derwent Graphitint pencils, and then lots of photo filters!

A bit more, from my morning Facebook post:

Good morning everyone!

Apparently I’m closing out 2016 by being rather lazy and getting easily distracted by creative play. It’s quite amazing how quickly time passes by when you get lost in the world of seeing a coloring in a new light.

Playing with photo filters to transform colorings into slightly different colorings almost feels like ultra quick coloring in a lot of ways. It doesn’t have the slow, calming feeling of coloring with pencil, marker or crayon. Instead, it has a fast, light weight energy that keeps the imagination hopping quite quickly.

It’s a recurring game for me to go “play creativity” in a non-drawing area (like photography, music making or tinkering with various computer tools of all sorts) and then pick up pencil and paper to see what pops out. It’s very much like that fun childhood activity of spinning around and around until you get really dizzy, then sitting down and marveling at how everything looks. Or leaning over and looking at everything upside down for a while.

I guess what all of these things in common is that they work as transitions from looking at familiar things in familiar ways, to looking at familiar things and realizing that there is always something new to see. My husband just delivered cup of tea number two. Same cup as always. Tea looks pretty much the same. Lighting, reflections, fill level and swirling motion of the tea all just a bit different than any other morning cup of tea. All the more noticeable when the mind is primed to expect surprises everywhere. 🙂

Have a lovely coloring Wednesday!
