Oh! So close! Today is the sixth day that I’ve worked on this piece and I’m definitely headed into the home stretch.

I often leave smaller pieces and background areas until the end. The smallest pieces will look fine in almost any color, and I’m not sure what color I’ll want for the background until I see how all of the other colors look.

You can see I’m spreading around some of my darker colors so that they flow through the entire picture.

And here’s a close up look at my stopping point for the evening so you can see just how little is left. If I wanted a white background, I’d charge ahead and finish those last tiny shapes tonight. I want a nice warm golden background, though, and I’m leaving a couple of tiny shapes so that tomorrow’s coloring session has a bit of variety.

Shading is turning out to be far more enjoyable when I’m not fussing over how long it’s taking. I think that it’s also been helpful to have these shorter, hour-long coloring sessions so that I don’t exceed my current coloring stamina. There’s a lot to be said for ending each colorings session before you over tire yourself – especially when working on new skills.

Today’s coloring is from Cool (Angie’s Extreme Coloring Books – Volume 2) colored with Faber-Castell colored pencils.
