Today I’m coloring from my newest book, Breathe For Crayons And Wide Tipped Markers. It’s too soon to be sure whether or not I’m now hooked on shading – but all signs point to “quite possibly”.

Coloring over and blending with the lighter shade.

One of the things that’s coming with a bit more shading experience is that it stops being a big deal how you fling your colors around. Stick a shadow here or there and it’s probably going to look just fine. Abstract patterns don’t care a bit where your light source may be coming from – and you can see how sometimes I put my dark tones near the middle of the picture and other times the light tones go there. Switching them up can create some real cool satin finish effects.

I really like this new way of doing picture galleries. Today you’ll see that I’ve added some little descriptions and color matched the cover-up effect. Hover over a picture to see it nice and clear, and tap or click on it to see the big version.
