Note: This week I’ll be posting somewhat smaller slide shows since there’s a holiday shopping rush on the Internet that’s slowing down a lot of people’s internet connections.

Thinky thoughts from this morning’s Facebook post:

Good morning everyone!

It’s just disproportionately fun sticking itty bitty dots all over a coloring, lol. 🙂 I have no idea why I find this so amusing, but there is something so playful about plopping all of those teensy tiny dots onto a page. Maybe it has to do with being accepting of pointless activities that take a lot of extra time and attention.

I think that most people encounter spots in their lives where they do a bit of a “life reset”. Maybe it’s a big location change, or a change in type of work, or relationships. I’ve done plenty of those, but the ones that really seem to be the most profound are the ones where I make some kind of shift and go from getting busier and busier and more overextended – to being in the exact same place but feeling that time is becoming more abundant and expansive. My current reset is in many ways the “post coloring books craze craziness” reset.

About a year ago, there was just no way that I could comfortably dot a picture this way. Instead of each dot being a pretty, happy little dot – putting that first dot into a shape meant that I had committed to this busy path where I was going to have to keep going until a dozen (or a hundred) more little dots were completed. The sense of “you really better get moving on this, because if you don’t you’ll be late doing this and that and the other thing” was so incredibly strong.

That kind of perception is always quite difficult for me to shift, and then one day you stumble upon the magic pause button that was always there and press reset. It’s much like trying to play music on a cassette tape player that gradually speeds up until you pop the tape out, thump on the player a bit, and then put the tape back in and marvel how stuff sounds when played at the intended speed.

Apparently my ability to plop dots is a good reflection of my ability to relax, to listen attentively, to sip my tea instead of chugging it and to find abundance in my day. Hooray for silly little polka dots!

Have a lovely coloring Sunday!
