I like the way that these blog posts are making it really easy for me to show you all of the steps along the way as I color. That’s especially fun on a day like today when I had two big changes of direction while I colored.

It all started out with a nice muted aqua shade.

Then a pinky violet.

Bright green.

A brighter aqua.

A brighter pinky violet.

And then the dramatic black marker jumped out of my marker box.

Black markers tend to be dramatic – and this one was having a serious drama day. Now I’m thinking that my picture is going to be brights and blacks and I’m going to leave some white space again today since I enjoyed it so much last time.

More bright pink in the middle.

More bright aqua and green to finish the picture. Except…

At the very last minute I just couldn’t leave all of that white space. My picture was just a bit too eye popping, so I grabbed a couple of pastel shades to take the “pop” down a notch. I like both versions, but the one with the added pastels is a little less intense and more soothing – which feels particularly good.

(Today’s picture is from Balance For Crayons And Wide Tipped Markers, colored with these Copic marker shades.)
