Today we’ve got some unplanned sunset colors! This happens quite a bit when I color – especially with colored pencils. I usually don’t even notice that I’m going down the sunset path again until the picture is almost finished. Cool blues just seem to call our for warm, glowing orangey coral pinky tones.
Here’s a slide show with my step by step progress:
Did you notice: The pinky coral in this picture was all done with the same pencil shade. At first I used it in the center area with a light touch, but when I got to the corners at the end I wanted a bit more intense color and pressed harder. Of course, then I had to go back and add a second layer to middle to balance things a little.
On a personal note: I’ve been coloring journal pages a lot lately, and they immediately get turned into pages of notes, to do lists, grocery lists, etc. Today I ordered a small plastic storage box so that I can clip and saved the colored portion of my journal pages once the line part has finished its use as note paper. Having a cheerful coloring brightening my work lists adds a nice touch to busy days!
Today I used these Faber-Castell Polychromos and Derwent Coloursoft pencil colors:
