I’m really huge fan of Amazon, and one of the things I like so much is the ability to go back and look at my orders list and see what I bought when. I just did a quick check and found out that it’s been just barely over a year since I bought my first set of colored pencils.
I used colored pencils occasionally as a child but was never a fan of them then. Something about the scratchy texture on the paper just wasn’t as appealing as using crayons or markers.
But as an adult, I had the chance to try types of colored pencils were designed more for adult coloring use. Most of them have leads that are softer than the pencils I remember from my childhood. And a few of them have leads that are than even harder – but those are specifically designed for very fine detail work. As an adult, with a little bit of shopping around and trying things out, there is probably a pencil out there of some type that feels just right to just about any kind of colorist. (My most used right now are my Faber-Castell Polychromos which glide so smoothly over the paper.)
So here we are, a year after I’ve discovered the appeal of pencils. They are now quite familiar and comfortable. It’s quite a change from my first days working with colored pencils as an adult. This isn’t a particularly big event in the grand scheme of things, but the landmarks like this serve as nice observation points as we go through our years, learning new things bit by bit, refining our likes and dislikes, developing our skills.
Colorings are like pretty snapshots, capturing all of the little moments along the way in your coloring journey. Sometimes it’s nice to page back and see how far you’ve come. I find that I don’t notice my progress very much on a day to day basis, but when you start thinking about how much things can change in a year or two or ten – stuff really adds up!
Today’s coloring is from Balance For Crayons And Wide Tipped Markers.
