So far I’ve used 12 different marker shades in this picture, and each little shape has been colored with 3 to 4 shades.

I don’t like having identical colored shapes side by side. But shaded shapes that are very close in color each have enough difference to them that I don’t mind repeating shaded colors this way – as long as the identical parts don’t actually touch, lol.

Shading within a closely related set of colors like this reminds me of bright colored hard candies. The light areas look like they are letting light peek through from behind – little bits of glowing color edged with soft shadows.

There’s still a lot left to color on this one, so I’ll be back tomorrow to update the date counter and show you the next bit of progress. 🙂
