Sometimes a drawing has a mind of its own and tells you which colors to use.

I started out by picking a marker shade I haven’t used recently. How about a nice dark grayish greenish color?

But a few minutes later this picture was demanding sunny yellow sunflower shades. Big, bright happy sunflower colors – with all kinds of different yellows.

I figured I’d add some more green and see if I could create a color scheme that was a little more like embroidered tapestry than like a giant flower bloom.

Maybe just a little more yellow around the edges.

OK. I give up. If you want to be a sunflower, you can be a sunflower. And not a sunflower with white space peeking out through the petals. I’m going to go full sunflower today! 🙂

And there we are. My finished sunflower – so bright and cheerful that I could picture a garden full of flowers that look exactly like this right in my front yard. Wouldn’t that be wonderful!
