Wow, the clock change (end of Daylight Savings Time) has really thrown me for a bit of a loop. I tend to write my blog posts in the afternoon or evening, and my morning ritual is sipping tea, writing a short note to my Facebook group and then posting the blog post I prepared the day before.
Considering I don’t wear a watch and didn’t think I really scheduled my day, I am very accustomed to a certain flow to the day. A lot of things happen at fairly regular times – stuff like feeding the dogs, exercise, tea cups one and two, lunch, etc. And now there is such a noticeable difference in the lighting as I do my regular daily stuff. I’m typing this blog post while my husband serves up the evening meals for our dogs, and the lighting is telling me that we are running late even though we are actually running slightly earlier than usual.
I kept feeling the pull today to make lists because it felt like I have a lot to do and limited time to get it done – but in actuality today isn’t that much different than yesterday and I think the list making urge has more to do with the way the lighting keeps telling me it’s getting late when it actually isn’t late.
It’s actually a strange relief to be finishing this slow coloring today so that I can start fresh with a new piece. Almost all of the coloring on this piece has been done at a certain time of day so today there were all of these weird conflicting time signals as I finished it up. But tomorrow, a switch to something completely different should let me form a brand new coloring/time of day/lighting association.
One of the other things that’s absolutely driving me nuts at the moment is that because it’s darker outside then when I usually type my blog post, every single thing on my desk looks weirdly yellow tinged from the incandescent lights. I never really noticed that I usually blog with much whiter light and my open sketchbook page on the desk looks like it’s on cream colored paper instead of the super bright white that I’m used to. Hopefully I adjust quickly and colors start looking right again soon! And I hope everyone is handling the clock shift better than I am, lol.
Here’s a slide show with my step by step slow coloring progress:
