Today’s coloring has a very October color scheme (totally unplanned, but probably a reaction to the colors around me today.) When I step back and look at my finished colorings, I see black night skies and blazing Autumn leaves that are starting to get a bit crunchy. Also, a hint of glowing bonfire embers and sooty coals.

Here’s a slide show with my step by step progress:

Stray thoughts: For many of us, our childhood coloring projects finished with us showing our pictures while describing them out loud to a parent or teacher.  Eventually our drawing and coloring skills develop to the point where we assume people can tell at a glance what ideas are contained in the picture. But it’s still quite a valuable thing to go through that extra step of putting words to some of the things that your eyes and imagination see in your colorings. I find that helps me look at my finished pictures with fresh eyes and see it as a whole – something that’s not quite so easy to do when you are in the middle of the coloring process.
